Going Green, It’s Every Where

I find it interesting that going green has become such a big issue. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is great and I try my best to do right by our Mother Earth when possible. I have always been into recycling and have turned a good amount of people onto recycling through out the years. So I am happy to see such a big push these past few years.

I was browsing the Internet and found an interesting site that rates and reviews website hosting companies. After a few clicks I cam upon the 10 top rated Green Web Hosting companies, which really tickled me. I didn’t know that there was such a thing and was fascinated to see that these companies are doing what they can in becoming a respectable green web host.

If we all take the time to do what it takes to become greener in our every day lives, we just might have a chance in surviving a few more decades, at least I hope so!

Computers & Our Senior Citizens

I’ve come to rely on the Internet more than I ever would have thought I would back in the early days of the personal computer, in the late eighties if I remember correctly. I first started out with an Apple Mac and tried to remain a Mac user until I realized that every place that I worked at and everyone else that I knew (except for my big sister) didn’t use Apple computers. In order to keep up with their demands I finally ended up giving up my Mac (she is still in the basement on a shelf, buried deep) and purchasing a PC.

There are a lot of senior citizens out there that are very reluctant and are very intimidated by computers, so  I’m glad to see more and more classes being made available for seniors, because they could be utilizing the Internet for so many reasons and uses. I have a neighbor that is taking a class targeting our seniors and she is so excited to find herself learning as much as she has in the last couple of weeks. She is now looking into and researching online, email host issues to use for her “report” that is due in a few weeks. She came over the other day and we got to talking about hosting issues, we ended up at my laptop, online together and found some interesting information that she can use. We were both surprised to find how many web hosting companies are going “Green” – doing their part in conserving energy, which we were both pleased to read about. Isn’t easy being green, but it is the right thing to do for everyone concerned.

TV Channels

I have been getting burned out on TV lately, not that I have a lot of time to sit down and watch a lot of TV but when I do I want to watch something entertaining and/or interesting. There are way too many shows about crime going on that people are turning to and turning on each night, not me I’m looking for something that will make me laugh or teach me something.

The Animal Planet has been on my TV a lot these past few weeks, along with the Discovery and History Channels. They do and can provide me with a lot of good quality information that I know I can trust to be accurate and reliable.

Piano Lessons – Tickling the Old Ivories!

My niece, Tracey, is wanting to take piano lessons via the Internet. My sister is having a fit, but I’m all for it. Tracey is a good kid and spends a lot of time on the computer and I think that she could handle the online piano lessons. She is a pretty smart kid and usually follows through with things that she starts so I’m surprised that my sister isn’t as positive about this request as I thought she would be. Tracey approached me about the piano lessons first (we are pretty tight) and I urged her to talk to her mom about it, thinking that it wouldn’t be a big deal. Boy did I call that one wrong, ugh…….

Looks like I will be going over to their house over the weekend and see if I can patch things up between them. I will even offer to help pay for the piano lessons, although they make a lot more money than I do, but that is how strong I feel about the whole things, although I don’t think it is the money that is the issue. Most of our family members can play at least one musical instrument and Tracey would like to be included in the music that is made at our family functions throughout the year. I’ve never been able to play an instrument or sing, but I can sure dance circles around most of them!

Insurance Online

It doesn’t matter where you go, there will always be a need for most types of insurance. There just isn’t any way around it these days. The good news is that the Internet has made it easier for us to find the right type of insurance for our individual needs and wants and we no longer are  limited to word of mouth, the media and the local Yellow Pages  in an effort to find the perfect match.

Instead of spending hours on the phone, with pen and paper in hand calling various agents to get auto quotes or home insurance quotes you can go online and search for the information with ease and using the time that you have to the best advantage. When I first moved here I went to the Illinois Department of Insurance website and found a great amount of useful information and links. Every state has different rules, codes, laws, regulations yadda, yadda, yadda. And claiming ignorance is still no excuse and will not hold up in a court of law, so it pays to know what you are up against right from the start.

So like if I were to look into starting up a new business you can be that I’d be checking into business insurance in Illinois and doing my homework online to be better informed before signing on any dotted line. It’s all about the money.
